Speaker 1:

Hey, welcome to the bartender's perspective. I'm so happy to have you here. Work is done for the day. Pull up a chair, have a seat, pour you a drink and let's get started Tonight's podcast.

Speaker 1:

I want to talk about embracing new beginnings. I've heard it time and time again where people are afraid of the unknown. I mean that's a natural thing to feel. You should navigate life's transition, start fresh with confidence. So let's talk about the powerful idea of a new beginning, when life is not something to fear but rather a chance to understand and embrace the unknown as a new chapter in your life.

Speaker 1:

Life is full of twists and turns. We often find ourselves facing significant transitions in a new job, new city and every relationship. Whatever the case may be, maybe a fresh start on a personal goal, but why didn't the beginnings often bring along fear and uncertainty? One gentleman that I've recently he's a regular seen he started a new job. It's exciting, but it was a little unnerving. At first. He had worked in the same company for many years. He became accustomed to their culture, his colleagues and his routines and then he took that new job in a different company. He even changed his industry. He went from banking into IT, which, well, I don't understand that transition. Two different things. He was excited for the opportunity, the growth and the change. It was a little scary at first because his new environment it was a bit of a challenge and the company's culture was a little different from the last one that he was in and the new responsibilities and the processes. It all took time and on this transition it's a significant life change. But he's been doing it for a year now and he's really happy. It was just starting out. That made it so hard.

Speaker 1:

It's human nature to be apprehensive about the unknown. Our brains are wired to seek stability and predictability. So here's the thought to ponder the unknown is not your enemy, it's your ally and personal development. When you open yourself up to new experiences and opportunities, you can unlock a potential in ways you might never have known. This one was good for all you scientists out there in a space exploration. I mean people have been apprehensive about the unknown when it came to space Venturing into the vast dark expanse of the universe. You know it was, it was mysterious and you know from man's first step on the moon and everybody watched like that. That must have been earth shattering at that time. You know my understanding of welcome the unknown. You know, as far as the aspects of space, it really has changed humanity and they're pushing the boundaries of our knowledge and exploring the cosmos. We've made so many groundbreaking discoveries, too many to name. You know, about the origins of our universe, you know, and the potential for life beyond earth. This is expanded our understanding of the universe and, really honestly, our place in it.

Speaker 1:

I'm exploring the unknown in space exploration. You know it's advanced scientific knowledge. You know it's inspired generations and Now we have a greater sense of curiosity, greater now than ever. You know it's a testament to how confronting the apprehension about the unknown can lead to remarkable progress in personal growth. You know, but that's a now that's acknowledged.

Speaker 1:

That fear that comes with new beginnings and we're creatures of habit and no change can be intimidating, you know. But it's essential to recognize that every new chapter in our lives offers a unique opportunity for growth. You know, learning a personal development I say this one so much of the bar too. I mean starting a new romantic relationship after a long and you know long-term one has ended. It could be intimidating, you know, people ought to become creatures of habit and their previous relationships, you know, and now you're all of a sudden adjusting to a new partner's habits, preferences and expectations. Never mind, you kind of have to undo some of your old behaviors with your former partner. You know to adapt to the, to the next. You know it's the fear of that unknown in the prospect of change and that's one of those things that can make a new beginning, you know, anxiety inducing, I can only imagine. So check this out Every time you face the unknown. You've grown and you have adapted. You know you faced uncertainty and emerged stronger and wiser.

Speaker 1:

A lot of the examples out there, you know. Let's let's take a real, simple one. So let's take a child who started their first day of kindergarten. They were initially, you know, quite shy and difficulty interacting, you know, with other classmates. But over the years that child gradually grew and adapted, with the support of teachers and parents, became more confident, you know develop strong relationships, became more confident. You know develop strong social skills. You know, and took on leadership roles in school clubs in a perfect world, of course. Uh, by the time that child graduated high school, you know they had transformed from a timon kindergarten. They're, you know, into a confident outgoing adult and they're ready to take on, you know the challenges in this world, which there are so many, uh. But our experiences, both good and bad, you know they shape us into who we are today, embracing new beginnings. You know it's not just about leaving the past behind, it's about learning from it and carrying these lessons with you into the future. You know, as a uh.

Speaker 1:

Moving to a new city you know moving to a new city is a fresh start and the people embrace this chain of retaining their memories, you know, and experiences from their previous. You know location while adapting to their new environment. You know you got to learn the city. You have to. You know where's the best place to park. You know where's the best place to get groceries. You know etc, etc. Starting a family you know. When couples Decide to have children, you know it really is a significantly new beginning. You know they carry forward the lessons learned from their own upbringing to create a nurturing environment for there's new kits. I've been saying that one a lot lately a lot of pregnant people coming through the bar and say they're first or, for some, their fifth or sixth. And what I really enjoy hearing, you know, from the ones that I'm familiar with who didn't have the best upbringings. They're excited to be able to pass on what they don't want their children to Not have, but they get them a better life essentially. So yeah, starting a family, you know.

Speaker 1:

Recovering from addiction, you know. Individuals in recovery from addiction, you know they're, they embrace a new beginning by leaving behind their substance abuse, this difficulty that is and we'll talk about this in a later podcast and a learning from their past mistakes for those that choose to do so, an experience to maintain a sober and healthier future. It's one of those things, I think for a lot of addicts, they don't Take the time when it they relapse To look back at past mistakes, because sometimes it's just easier not to, but nonetheless so. Entrepreneurship, you know. Often entrepreneurs, you know they face challenges and setbacks but they use these experiences as valuable lessons. You know, when they fail, they get up and they go again. You know, when there's an obstacle, they just they overcome it, they just keep going. You know they embrace new beginnings. You know, with each venture, you know, apply past knowledge. You know, to improve the chances of success.

Speaker 1:

Whoo, educational pursuits and I I have a lady that comes to the bar. She's been Stay at home mom for many, many years and Her kids have all moved out. You know she's looking for something to do with her life. Well, she's going back to school and I she's pursuing in a higher education. You know she can take the lessons From these academic experiences and apply them, you know, to excel in a new educational journey.

Speaker 1:

So Retirement all the retirees that come through a drink and have a drink because they don't know what else to do with their lives. It really is a significant life transition. Individuals embracing this new beginning you know they reflect and they're working years and for some they carry that wisdom, you know, into their retirement, making the most of their new found freedom, while others it drives them nuts and they find themselves standing on the greater man at Walmart. What people come walking through just to say hello? But those workaholics out there Rebuilding after natural disasters and the communities Affected by natural disasters like hurricanes or wildfires, and often face the challenge of rebuilding, learning from the past, you know they rebuild their homes and their infrastructures. You have to be more resilient and it helps them better prepare for the future. So yeah, personal growth and development. Individuals committed to personal growth you know they embrace new beginnings by acknowledging their past mistakes and experiences. They use them as stepping stones to become better versions of themselves in the future.

Speaker 1:

I think it's important to remember that some of the most successful people face moments of uncertainty. You know they didn't let fear hold them back. They embrace the unknown and that's what propelled them forward man. Take Steve Jobs. Even after he was ousted from Apple in the 1980s, you know he faced an uncertain future. He went on to found nexty and Pixar, both of which were successful ventures, but later he returned to Apple and played a pivotal role in its resurgence, of course, as we all know, creating iconic products. You know, like the iPhone or like the Mac, that I'm recording this on Now. Some.

Speaker 1:

Mandela, spending 20 27 years in prison for his anti-apartheid activities. He emerged as a symbol of peace and reconciliation. You know he became South Africa's first black president and he worked to dismantle apartheid and I'm bringing positive change to the nation. And JK Rowling, the famous author you know she faced poverty and rejection while writing the book, while writing the first Harry Potter book. You know it was her perseverance and resilience that led her to become one of the most successful authors in history. Elon Musk, ladies and gentlemen Elon Musk you know he faced numerous challenges and failures in his ventures like SpaceX, you know, in Tesla. Despite setbacks, he persisted and today these companies are pioneering in space exploration, you know, and electric vehicles. While I know he's not the most popular person these days, nonetheless he's brilliant. The illustrious Franklin D Roosevelt FDR. He contracted poly over the young age, you know, which left him paralyzed from the waist down, but despite that, he later became the 32nd president of the United States and led the nation to the Great Depression and World War two. I Know.

Speaker 1:

These examples demonstrate Facing the unknown and overcoming adversity Can lead to personal growth, resilience, you know, and the ability to make a positive impact on our world. So how can you shift your mindset and welcome a new beginning with open arms? You know it begins with acknowledging your fear, and you know, and then reframing it, and the fear is often a sign that you're stepping outside of your comfort zone, which is precisely where personal growth happens. Oh, you know, I had great gentlemen. You know I had something else written down, but I remember this guy. Now this is a better example.

Speaker 1:

I Knew this guy and he came to the bar. I he's outspoken and complimented on it, but he had not always been that way, apparently, in the beginning he had been an introvert and shy. He avoided doing any kind of public speaking at all costs, which just it was amazing to hear this. But then he decided to step outside of his comfort zone and he joined a public speaking club. It was hard at first but over time, man, I remember this guy. He has improved his speaking skills. He gained confidence, not only helped him in his career he's a recruiter, by the way it gave him presentation. He gave better presentations effectively and his interviewing skills were good and it boosted his self-esteem and his interpersonal skills just grew from there. Man, I remember this guy. He stepped outside of his comfort zone and it led to personal significant growth and a successful career.

Speaker 1:

Surround yourself with a support system that encourages and uplifts you during transitions. Seek advice and guidance from friends and mentors people that know more about life than you do, man, definitely the professionals. When you have the chance, talk to them. They're the ones who have navigated similar paths and pitfalls and learned and grew from them. I still like to recant my time as a bartender Again. I spent my time with people who were much more intelligent about alcohol, about people, just knew so much more about life. I used every opportunity to ask a question, educate myself, whether it was just people that knew more about alcohol than me or the people that come and see me every day. I was telling somebody the other day that one of the ways that I grow as a person and it helps me to write a better podcast is to ask them questions and hear what they have to say. All of you my listeners, my regulars thank you for that.

Speaker 1:

So my conclusion, though the journey to the idea embracing new beginnings and it's shown us change really it's not something to be feared, but a powerful opportunity to explore the unknown and begin a new chapter in your lives. And we've learned that, just like the turning of a page in a book, new beginnings offer a chance to redefine ourselves and find the beauty and uncertainty. By letting go of the past, stepping into the uncharted territory of the future, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities, lessons and adventures. So next time you're faced with a new beginning, remember y'all this is a chance to author your own story, the pen of curiosity, the ink of courage. Embrace it, for it is the unknown that we often find our most extraordinary selves.
